Hello!

Over 25 years ago, I moved from Ethiopia to Canada. Leaving behind my family, hometown, and culture was difficult. Learning English, building a family, and feeling part of a new country was also challenging. But I found a way to combine the traditions from back home with my new life in Canada.

About Genet Mehari

Mother, life coach, realtor and community.

To earn money, I worked in commercial cleaning and saved enough to study at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. I graduated with an accounting diploma and later became a real estate agent. Now, I coach others to success and continue to help people find their dream homes and feel happy in their hearts.

There was a time in my professional life that I felt awkward and didn’t know the right questions to ask, how to make confident choices, and my rights. One time a boss said, “Are you going to get pregnant?” I didn’t know he was asking an inappropriate question. Actually, I was pregnant and then couldn’t sleep, felt distressed, and worried that he would fire me.

My struggle to succeed has inspired me to want to empower other immigrant women. I feel excited to support them to speak up, know what they want, and make smart decisions about their lives that fills their hearts.

I live in Northeast Calgary and am proud to be part of the Ethiopian community. I speak Tigrigna, Amharic, and English, which lets me work with clients from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Ghana, Nigeria, and Canada.

I also lead workshops for immigrant women to help them feel confident. One of my most loved workshops is called Love Your Voice. I’ve also organized traditional celebrations to share and honor our cultural holidays.

As a mother, life coach, and realtor, I feel called to share what I’ve learned. It makes me happy to see my clients feel at home in North America. I trained in The Art & Science of Coaching™ at Erickson Coaching International, where I learned how to use neuroscience and solution- focused methods to guide people toward their goals.
